How the 7-day pending release works
A death notice starts a 7-day pending release. Assigned documents stay sealed, and you can abort the wait. When it ends, those files open and edits lock.
Great question. Your vault is built so no one gets your files in a hurry, and you can always say "I'm still here."
How it works:
1. A notice starts the clock. If your Legacy Steward (or someone holding your Emergency Print Card) files a death notice, a 7-day pending release begins. If you start a handoff yourself, the same seven days apply.
2. Everything stays sealed. No one gets assigned documents just because a form was submitted.
3. You can stop it. As the owner, you can abort the wait anytime during those seven days.
4. When the wait ends, assigned documents open and the vault locks for edits.
You're in control of what's seen. "See now" items stay available while the vault is Locked. "See after release" items wait for the real end of the seven days.
Want a second check? If two stewards are named on a plan that asks for a second confirmation, that second yes is part of the notice path, so one person in a hurry isn't the whole story.
Try a practice run. It's a short drill, and documents stay closed. Don't confuse it with the real wait.
Everyday status you want: Locked, with the wait unused. Just make sure a steward is named first, so a release has somewhere to go.
